OK, I finally got off my butt and set up my online shop at http://beakee.etsy.com last Thursday. I've listed stuff made a couple of months ago. I think Etsy is a pretty cool site - it features all handmade things, and some of what people are selling are unique and really creative. The site has recently undergone some system upgrades, so traffic and server status may be a bit busy sometimes while they tidy up loose ends. Managed to sell something yesterday and I'm off to post it in a while :)
I just wanted to talk about my "design" philosophy a bit... I'm not trained in design, or jewellery making for that matter. Things are pretty simple to make and materials are widely available. But I think the choice of colours and quality of materials are important things that many not-so-serious sellers overlook. I mean, if items are priced at a reflection of actual cost, then what do you think goes into the making of a $5 pair of earrings? Even worse if they're in a colour combination that's either difficult to wear or doesn't flatter human skintones. Well, so. Perhaps some people like their accessories to be disposable because they get to stretch their dollar and chase whatever trends at the same time. But trends are transient, blink and they're gone...
Anyway... I'm going to experiment with making rings and anklets soon. Stay tuned.
