So the advantage of being able to create my own jewellery is that I am able to make exactly what I want - most of the time anyway. And, finally having gotten over my phobia of hoops or long earrings getting caught in stuff and being ripped out, I have been wanting hammered hoops.

While there is already a plethora of these things out there, I actually want the hammered bit to be facing up and not to the side, if you know what I mean. Plus, I don't want 2-piece earrings that require the itty bitty backing to stay secure. Couldn't find anything I liked, so...

The cut ends wire of wire are verrrry sharp - you know what a klutz I am - and cutting must be my next most hated activity to filing. A few pierces and scrapes and lotsa shaping and hammering later, these emerged:

sterling silver hammered hoops!sterling silver hammered hoops!

I'm quite happy with how they turned out, considering it's my first time making hoops. These measure 1" and were formed from 20ga wire so they're a skinny 1mm wide. They're for myself though. I have a couple of others coming up in twisted wire and a slightly thicker gauge. Just imagine what they'll look like after being oxidised and polished... yum :)

So, do you wear hoops? Would you purchase something like these?

Love them! I don't wear hardly any jewelry at all anymore. But I used to wear it everyday (before the kid) and I'd definitely wear these.

I don't particularly like to make hoops because I don't have a mandrel to form with and have to guess at them, using whatever I can find to form them on. Usually I don't get them the same. I wish I had a mandrel to hammer them on. Did you use a mandrel initially to shape yours?

And now the possibilities are endless as to what charms you can make to add to them!!! :D

Teehee... thanks!

Ginger: yes I used a mandrel which was essential as I wanted to hammer the outer sides, but for shaping, I guess it doesn't really matter what you use as long as it's sturdy enough :)

Oh these hoops really look great. I used to like hoops, till careless, clumsy me nearly tore them off my ears.

I do think these will sell well though, because there are not many hoops hammered this way. Twisted wires hoops would look good hammered or not. :)

It's sooo funny that you made these great hoops wide rather than narrow. I just thought of that last night and was so excited to so how they would look! They look great!
