The first new piece of jewellery I've made in 3 months is a necklace that was commissioned back in November. This isn't my normal turnaround time, but I have been going through a rut of indifference on the crafting front. Distractions, disillusionment, even mild depression. It wasn't even due to a lack of inspiration - I found myself not caring and just not wanting to think about anything to do with all these little shiny things.
My bad :(
So I didn't really want to publish this until I was certain the client was happy with the design.... but here it is, pictured below with these earrings they were created to coordinate with (to be worn to a wedding! whee!). I'm not very satisfied with the photos, but still:
Featuring the same chatoyant grey moonstone pebbles and bunches of sparkly Songea sapphires, on 14K goldfill and 24K gold vermeil. I love this particular gem combination; it has all my favourite contrasts of colour, form and texture.

I lurk on your blog quite a bit, and those are definitely beautiful pieces. I do understand about the depression and disillusionment and not caring, I really do - been going through the same thing to a point where I wonder whether making jewellery worth it any more.
For what it -is- worth, I've always thought your stuff was gorgeous. Here's to recharging and finding some light soon. - @ 28 February 2010 at 11:10 msbelle said...

It is absolutely beautiful!! I love the color combo and your picture is lovely!
I understand completely how you feel about creating or lack thereof. I've been in a rut too. It's very disheartening when you see the same people (aka admin faves) with their can't wrap for crap stuff on the front page 200 times a week. Well that's an exaggeration, but 200 times a year is not. The rest of us don't stand a chance against that even when, in your case, your pictures, talent, gemstones, and wrapping far outshine the shit that hits the front page. It's enough to make you want to quit. But I hope you don't. I love your jewelry and you have gorgeous pics and gorgeous jewelry. - @ 28 February 2010 at 13:12 Unknown said...
- Thank you. I suppose the difference between critical recognition and commercial success has become more and more painfully clear. One pays bills, one doesn't... integrity is entirely optional... and I know for a fact I do not possess the character traits to be able to get my own name out there. Oh well!
